Life

Ηη got up and did all of his homework on Saturday morning, instead of coming to wake us up at unfeasibly early o’clock which has thus far been the normal order of things. I could hardly believe it – more sleep for us, and no standing over his shoulder getting-blood-from-a-stone homework routine. Long may this new dawn continue.

I bumped into the school chef in the week and was able to procure the recipe for a basil and lentil swirl (which Ηη is fairly obsessed with). I wasn’t convinced he would be up for my version, but he seemed very happy with it.

We accidentally discovered the Bunny vs Monkey comic series, and I think it might be the thing that unlocks reading for Ηη. He still makes up 50% of the words over five characters long, but his newfound enthusiasm and willingness to have a go is so good to see.

Αα has got it into her head that she doesn’t like one of the ladies who looks after her at nursery. This means everyone is miserable at drop-off which is a crap start to the day. We’re confident her stated reasons for not liking her are either daft (‘she asks me to tidy up’) or completely unfounded so hopefully it’ll work itself out soon.

We took Saka to the vet for a check-up. She gave him a fairly clean bill of health, but told us to pretty much halve the amount of food he’s getting. I’m bracing for a stretch of much begging and more houseplant destruction but I can see that it probably needs doing.

I’m still feeling a bit crap and not sleeping at all well. My best guess is low-level AI-is-ruining-my-life-and-has-rendered-the-sum-total-of-my-learning-worthless stress.

Σσ set off for the Labour conference. Double daddy pick-up/drop-off/put-down season is upon us.

Eking it out.
