Life
Ηη ran headlong into a zip line platform on Monday and split his eyebrow open necessitating a trip to A&E. He was braver than usual but fairly gutted to learn that it meant no more swimming for the week. At least Σσ was able to get his planned swimming lessons refunded.
We went to the Parliament Hill paddling pool and playground on Wednesday evening, the scaled the hill to join the eclipse party. Σσ had had the presence of mind to get us all proper eyewear. It was a bit too long and too late for Αα but she was a trooper. Ηη was really engaged for pretty much the whole time which was great. I enjoyed the extreme sense of my insignificance being amplified by the celestial events. Really puts refactoring the IIIF image viewer into perspective.
Wednesday rolled round and the builders weren’t finished in the flat. The excuse given is that the bathroom tiles are all slightly different sizes. I don’t dispute this fact, but they have known this about the tiles for more than two months now, and they’ve obviously just put off doing a job they didn’t want to do till the end. So their apparent dismay seems if not outright disingenuous then at least wilfully naïve. Now we’re getting wind that there are also possibly cash-flow issues between the contractor who we pay (and who we have paid diligently and on time throughout) and the sub-contractors actually doing the work. If they’re not seeing the money then we can hardly expect them to be doing the work when they’ve almost certainly got other more lucrative jobs on the go as well. I think the best we can hope for at this point is relying on the goodwill of the builder who I think/hope wouldn’t want to see us left in the lurch.
We moved back up to Highams Park on Friday night which was marginally depressing. But we’re obviously exceedingly lucky to have that as an option. And it at least means we’ll have another taste of a manky flat before we get to move back into our place rather than going straight from Tae’s luxury apartment.
Saturday we drove to Kettering to spend the day with uncle Rich, aunt Leanne, Liz and Peter. Everyone was on good form.
Sunday Αα got so mad she took all her clothes off and hit me with her pants.
By the end of the week the flat still wasn’t done, but it feels almost very nearly done now. I’ll be very surprised if we’re not back in next week.
Today (Sunday) is two years since Aila was admitted.
Running
Did a little bit in the heat and felt so much better for it. I think I will hugely benefit psychologically from being off watch for a bit.
