Life
Survived work till Thursday. Now I’ve got two weeks of holiday. I plan on spending it wondering why the builders haven’t finished our flat yet, going to the splash-pad (as a transparent means to ice-cream acquisition) and cycling to Highams Park every day to feed the cat.
I had my NHS podiatry appointment which reiterated that there doesn’t appear to be anything broken. And he told me that I could try running if I wanted to. And I want to (because the alternative is proving far too challenging). But I’m going to get a follow up in c. 6 weeks where they might do some more imaging if nothing’s improving. So a broadly positive experience (although I’d dearly love someone to be able to satisfyingly pinpoint the problem).
We’d been planning on visiting Gabi and her mamas near Madrid for a few days next week, but on Saturday morning Σσ awoke in a cold sweat with the clear understanding crystallising in her mind that we had failed to renew Ηη’s passport and there wouldn’t be enough time left on it for us to go. And it would be more than a week before an emergency one could be issued by which time Gabi’s mamas would be too busy to accommodate us. So we had properly fucked it. Ηη took it remarkably well. And I don’t think Αα appreciated enough what wasn’t now going to happen so she didn’t really seem to mind. I’m glad we realised before we were pulled up for it at the airport at least.
This brought about open season on ice creams and lollies in an attempt to assuage the guilt for being such shit parents.
The Anderson’s were in town and we managed to catch up with them a few times. Once in a playground. Once when we harboured their youngest for an evening while she refused to go to a restaurant with her family. And once in the pub with Si and Lou. Good fun on all occasions.
Ηη did an intensive swim course every day and I’m reliably informed he can if not, ‘swim’, then at least, stay-afloat-for-long-enough-that-someone-can-stop-him-drowning. He seems to be showing active interest in the process for the first time which makes it more enjoyable all round.
Αα got another cough that makes her sound like a wounded seal.
Σσ maybe/hopefully started to get over her seemingly interminable cold.
We are now two weeks past when the builders told us they would finish. And even though they’re now adamant they’ll be done by Wednesday next week, I sincerely doubt that will prove to be the case. I don’t want them to rush and do a rubbish job, but I’d love an estimate that could be grounded in a modicum of reality rather than just what they think I want to hear. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHEN WE CAN ACTUALLY MOVE BACK IN. But I guess I can’t moan too hard about dodgy estimates.
Running
20 mins of huff and puff after a month off. My fitness rather than my sore foot was the limiting factor which is good?
