Life
Yes, it was hot.
I caught up with old Fridayers in Soho Square on Tuesday for a pleasant if prematurely curtailed evening. Everyone seemed to be in fairly fine fettle, general workplace malaise notwithstanding.
We went to see Empire of the Sun on Wednesday evening with Lou, which was an absolute mission of travel, cat, and children management. On the world’s sweatiest bus to the gig, through parts of town I’ve never seen before (and never wish to see again) I confess there was a moment when I allowed myself to believe that we’d have been better off staying in. But in the end it was of course totally excellent, and a reminder that we need to do stuff like that in spite of the logistics.
Rach looked after the kids for the evening and we stayed over at theirs after the gig. In the morning we endured a power of passive aggressive energy, but I think it was largely pre-existing rather than as a result of our presence.
School closed early on Wednesday through Friday so there was more diary juggling and a relentless quest for shady spaces to keep the kids cool.
There was a long-overdue momentous announcement at Σσ’s work which will hopefully finally move the plot forward for her. I can already see that she feels lighter but she’s going to need some time to process it all.
We went back to Naomi’s on Saturday and her little girl looked after our kids for a blissful hour.
On Sunday we went back to Robbo’s with George and Heather. The kids played football in the garden and the vibes were infinitely superior to how it had been midweek.
Flat renovation continues. I doubt it’s all going to get done in the timeframe originally laid out, but I would love to be proved wrong because there’s no hiding from the fact that living in Higham’s Park is an exceptional ball-ache.
Running
I went out on Thursday lunch for a far-too-hot 40 mins but felt better for having had a run which isn’t a sensation I’ve felt for a while.
I visited the local parkrun on Saturday which was also too hot, but I did ok.
- Thursday: Afternoon Run – 5.08mi at 7:50/mi
- Saturday: Walthamstow parkrun – 5.85mi at 8:55/mi
- Sunday: Epping 10mi – 10.12mi at 7:58/mi
