Life
Most of the week was spent packing up more of the flat and getting prepped for a move to The Frozen North (Highams Park).
I dismantled the cot for the last time which threatened to make me quite emotional.
Ηη got pukey on Thursday and we assumed we’d all end up with the vomiting bug that’s doing the rounds, but somehow the rest of us avoided it. He was actually pretty good about it by his own standards. He certainly didn’t mind his introduction to the 80s panacea that is Lucozade. Mercifully he was emptied out and puke-free by the weekend and we ferried all our stuff (mostly toys) over to my brother’s flat.
I think me and Σσ are slightly anxious (bordering on depressed) about the prospect of the next 12 weeks living in my brother’s flat. Maybe mostly about how difficult it’s going to be to fit exercise in with all the other travel logistics. We’ll have to get into much more of a routine than we’re used to – there’s at least a chance it will force us to be more organised for a bit. And obviously we’re enormously fortunate to be able to renovate our flat and to be able to stay somewhere ‘nearby’ rent free.
I think the last time me and Σσ stayed here (about 15 years ago) our relationship was on much shakier ground, which is probably playing into the mild trauma we’re dealing with as well.
But the renovation is finally happening, and that is definitely exciting. The excitement is going to manifest as terror and stress for the next little while though.

Running
I’ve ordered some secondhand Takumi Sens off eBay so I’ll have to see if I can lower my 5k PB at some point soon. I went back to parkrun for the first time in ages and did reasonably well without completely breaking myself so I think there should be something to work with. Although I derive no great pleasure from racing shorter distances – it always feels like a serious slog.
Ηη lost his junior parkrun edge by getting into a tear up with his year 1 nemesis on the first lap, but I got the impression it helped him understand the idea that going a bit slower can be faster overall. We’ll see if the lesson has stuck next time.
My left big toe is still fairly well busted up from when I kicked a boulder running down Coniston Old Man.
